Walking, healthy cooking, and a plethora of pictures!

Ok, admittedly it's been too long since I last updated. To put it mildly, it's been a little busy in the Phan household. However, Asher has been meeting huge milestones developmentally that are, of course, worth taking a few minutes out of the hectic schedule to share with everyone, especially since I am so proud of his accomplishments and so thankful for what a healthy son we've been blessed with. :)

Despite the look on his face, he loves The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Asher is now 9 months old. He's taking two to three steps at a time, unassisted, before falling over. He cruises everywhere, and his favorite thing to do is try to hang out with our dog Jax as much as possible. Jax loves to go in her crate to get away from him, while Asher sits or stands at the crate door looking at her and talking to her. When it's not driving me crazy, it's very cute.
I just want to be with Jax!
Trying to walk to Daddy

OH! and Asher dances now.  Talk about putting a smile on our faces. He doesn't usually do the typical baby bounce, although he'll do that too at times. Mostly, he likes to show his groove by swaying on all fours. It's hilarious, especially since he's SO in the zone when he does it. He'll just be crawling along, a song will start playing that he likes, he'll freeze in place and just sway back and forth to the beat, in his own little world.  It's the best! If I can get the video we have of it uploaded without it taking forever, I'll post it. :)

The beginning of December, we excitedly embarked on a road trip to Dallas to have Asher spend time with some much-loved family on Nam's dad's side of the family. We had a great time and lots of laughs!

Asher gave Co Suong lots of smiles

And Co Tuyet gave lots of hugs :)

We also enjoyed our first Christmas with Asher surrounded by lots of loving family before, during and after Christmas. It was very memorable. AND I got Asher's stocking made in time for Christmas. It took way too many hours to complete and I'm afraid I've set a time-consuming precedent for any future children we have. But I think it turned out really well, and I hope it turns into one of the items Asher looks forward to bringing out a few weeks before Christmas each year in eager anticipation of all the fun holiday times ahead.
After 40+ hours of applique work...the stocking is finished!

With Asher eating lots of solid foods now, Nam and I have resolved to eat healthier in the new year. I made my first "green soup", which involved a lot of kale and spinach, some sweet potato, sweet onion, garlic, and as anyone who knows us well knows no dish is complete without a little spice...cayenne. Put all that and a few more ingredients cooked down into my food processor and you have soup! It was very green...fit for a Dr. Seuss book green.  It was tasty. Not "tell all your friends `It's the best!'" amazing. But it was good and above all really, really good for you. Thanks eatingwell.com!

Until next time, hope everyone is having a great start to the new year!

And we'll have fun, fun, fun....

It was a busy September. Asher is on his way to crawling. Lots of army crawls, scoots, and generally getting around to wherever he wants to go...baby gates now required. Our dog, Jax, is a new-found fascination for Asher. We think Jax will soon be regretting all that attention she paid Asher the first few months, and she will wish she could lock herself in her crate to get away from Asher. :)

Nam, Asher, and I were SO happy to get to spend lots and lots of time with Tia Raquel while she was in town for a few months. She is family to us, and we miss her sooooooooo much now that she's gone back home.  Raquel had a very special gift of being able to make Asher laugh...like serious belly laughs. It was hilarious!

Crawling on and playing with Daddy is one of Asher's favorite things

We get to have weekend dinners with Daddy's family lots of the time. So many aunts and uncles to laugh with!

Asher turned 6 months old on September 29th! I am in disbelief.  These past 6 months have been some of the fastest of my life. However, ask me how fast those times seemed to go during the evening hours before bed when the endless fussing commences. :)
6 months!

First carnival ride at Kiddie Park...he didn't seem to notice anything special. haha.

Concentrate! He is VERY determined to get where he wants to go.

He won't stay in laps very long anymore.  He's got places to be, people to see!

Until next time...

Outer Banks 2011

Ok, I know, I know. When it rains, it pours.  I finally had time to sit down and get all these pictures on the blog, which has resulted in 4 posts in one day.
This year was a great one at the OBX.  Asher met all of his extended family on his mommy's side and got to spend lots of time on the beach.

This look alike contest with Uncle John was not planned.

Resting with Grampy

Taking a dip in the Atlantic with cousin Cohen

He's almost as big as Ella!  haha.

Nam had fun with the nieces and nephews as always :)
